Digital Media Design: Motion Graphics

For this project I have been given the task to produce a minute long animation under the theme "Future" and "Fortune". Immediately I decided trying to use both keywords would prove to be too difficult so I decided on creating an animation that represented the "Future".

I first began to brainstorm some ideas and came out with some obvious solutions such as technology and space. I settled on an idea, and decided to create an animation on "The Future of Music", from the Baroque period of music to Electronic music we have today. I then began to develop the idea and thought a fun idea would be to combine these two genres of music, making a song that starts off in the baroque period and gradually enters electronic music, an idea of where music may take us next.

For the visual side of things I decided to make visuals that represented the music that will be playing. So for example when a harpsichord is playing I would think of sheet music written out and for the more electronic side of music I think of visualizations and generative art. I also decided that as we are projecting on a building I would make the visuals simplistic so that hopefully it would stand out.

The Music

First things first, the music. If I am to produce visuals I need music to animate to so I started producing using a program called FruityLoops, here are some screens of some of the process.

I began to create music in an order of which I felt represented the changes and development in music. I began with a baroque period harspichord to start the music and gradually add each instrument, violins, keys, beat and then the electronic music comes in and fuses all the sounds together. Once I was happy with the music I moved onto..

The Visuals

I first began doing some mockups (below) using Photoshop just to see how it could possibly look when I begin to use AfterEffects however for the electronic part I am not totally sure how it will look as it is more generative art, so to represent what it would like would be too hard.
